There's something quietly remarkable about a lighter case that's also a piece of art. James Martin, a Navajo silversmith known for his meticulous metalwork, took a mini Bic lighter and wrapped it in solid sterling silver with the same care he'd give a bracelet or a concho belt. The front is worked in floral repoussé, a hand-formed silver blossom at center, flanked by two vivid red coral cabochons set in serrated bezels, with scrollwork and a scalloped border catching the light at every angle.
Flip it over and you'll find the back hand-engraved with geometric patterns, each one unique to that particular piece. No two are exactly alike, the coral varies slightly in tone and shape, and the engraving reflects Martin's individual hand on that day. It fits a mini Bic snugly and turns an everyday carry item into something worth noticing.
