This tall ovoid vase gives Ben Billy's hand-etching work room to fully unfold. The elongated form carries a layered color story from deep terracotta at the base, through a rich midnight blue band, and into earthy green and orange tones near the neck. Each color zone transitions gradually, the result of careful work with mineral pigments applied before firing.
The central body is hand-carved with vertical step motifs and repeating geometric lines, each one cut by hand into the clay. The precision of the etching against the warmth of the color palette is what makes this piece stand out. Signed on the base as BL Navajo.
