This buffalo takes a quieter approach than the blue-toned version. Ben Billy works in matte grey here, and where the stylus carves through the slip, warm terracotta clay shows through underneath. The contrast is sharp and sophisticated, letting the precision of the line work carry the piece without the distraction of bold color gradients.
Same upright slab form as the other buffalo sculptures, 4 inches tall and 6 inches wide with a 1.13-inch depth. The two sides tell different stories: one features a large central triangular geometric motif filled with rhythmic line work, the reverse a banded horizontal landscape with mountain and water symbols. Two distinct displays, one piece. Signed "BL Navajo" on the bottom.
