This horsehair pottery Nativity Wedding Vase is handcrafted by Luna, a potter from New Mexico. It brings together two meaningful Southwestern traditions in a single piece. The classic dual-spout wedding vase, a symbol of two lives joined as one, is paired with a hand-painted Nativity scene nestled within the body of the vessel. The surface is decorated using the traditional horsehair firing technique, where strands of hair are laid onto the heated clay and carbonize instantly, leaving behind the fine, flowing black lines that make each piece completely unique.
The wedding vase form has long been used in Pueblo ceremony to honor the union of two people, with each spout representing a separate life and the bridge between them representing their bond. The addition of the Nativity gives this piece a second layer of meaning, making it a thoughtful gift for a wedding, anniversary, or the holiday season. Because it is made and fired by hand, the placement and pattern of the horsehair lines will vary from piece to piece and may differ from the photos shown. No two vases will ever look exactly alike.
