The End of the Trail is one of the most recognized images in American Western art, a weary rider and his horse, heads bowed, silhouetted against an open horizon. Molly Goldtooth renders it here in black against a two-toned natural sand background, tan and brown layered to suggest the vast, quiet expanse of the high desert. It's a small piece that carries a lot of weight.
Made using traditional Navajo sand-pouring techniques, the surface has that characteristic matte texture you can feel with your fingertip, finely ground natural sands and mineral pigments built up layer by layer. No two are exactly alike.
