This 6 inch Badger Kachina is handcrafted by Jacida and DeWayne Loley, artists from Shiprock, New Mexico. The Badger Kachina is a respected figure in Pueblo tradition, associated with healing, medicine, and the deep knowledge of roots and plants that grow beneath the earth. Each doll is shaped and painted by hand, with the distinctive markings of the badger rendered in careful detail and finished with feather and textile accents that give the piece a grounded, earthy presence.
In Pueblo culture, the Badger is considered a powerful medicine animal, connected to the south direction and the healing arts.
