This 3-inch Hoop Dancer Kachina is handcrafted by Jacida and DeWayne Loley, artists from Shiprock, New Mexico. The Hoop Dancer is one of the most dynamic figures in Southwestern tradition, shown mid-dance with small hoops that represent the circle of life, always moving and always connected. Each doll is shaped and painted by hand, with feather and textile accents that bring texture and a sense of motion to the piece.
In Pueblo culture, the Hoop Dance is a form of storytelling through movement, where the hoops are used to form shapes representing animals and symbols of creation. It speaks to harmony, flexibility, and balance. Because each piece is made by hand, colors and details will vary slightly, making yours one of a kind.
Handle gently around the hoop and feather details. Dust lightly with a soft dry brush. Keep out of direct sunlight and away from moisture.
