This 3-inch Buffalo Kachina is handcrafted by Jacida and DeWayne Loley, artists from Shiprock, New Mexico. The Buffalo Kachina is a powerful and deeply respected figure in Pueblo tradition, representing strength, abundance, and gratitude for the buffalo that sustained the people of the plains and Southwest for generations. Each doll is shaped and painted by hand, with the bold, sturdy presence of the buffalo captured in careful detail and finished with feather and textile accents.
In Pueblo ceremony, the Buffalo Dance is performed to honor the spirit of the buffalo and give thanks for its gifts of food, warmth, and life. This Kachina carries that same spirit of reverence and connection to the natural world. Because each piece is made by hand, colors and details will vary slightly, making yours one of a kind.
