The Mudhead, known as Koyemsi in Hopi tradition, is one of the most ancient and universally recognized figures in all of kachina art. With his rounded, mud-colored head and simple but expressive form, the Mudhead is a clown, a drummer, a dancer, and a sacred figure all at once. He appears at nearly every ceremony, playing games with children, drumming for other kachinas, and bringing a sense of joy and accessibility to the spirit world. This 10-inch figure is handcrafted by Jacida and DeWayne Loley, artists from Shiprock, New Mexico.

The Mudhead is often the first kachina people fall in love with, and it is easy to see why. There is something timeless and immediately appealing about his form. At 10 inches, the rounded head and earth-toned body are rendered with the warmth and character this figure deserves. Because each one is made by hand, colors and details will vary slightly, making yours one of a kind.
