Emne (Luna)
At SunWest Treasures, we enjoy sharing the artists and traditions behind the pieces we offer. One of the talented artists we feature is New Mexico artist Emne, also known as Luna.
Emne designs and handcrafts beautiful pottery that incorporates 24k gold and horsehair techniques. Each piece is inspired by the scenery of the Southwest, creating pottery that is both meaningful and collectible for years to come.
Horsehair pottery is created using hair from a horse’s mane or tail. After the pottery is fired in a kiln, the piece is removed while it is still red hot. The horsehair is then placed onto the surface. As the hair touches the hot pottery, it carbonizes and leaves natural, random patterns that make every piece unique.
Emne also creates stunning 24k gold pottery. These pieces are carefully handcrafted using paints, textured glazes, and 24k gold that are applied at different stages of the process. This technique allows each design to develop its own character and beauty.
Every piece of pottery reflects the inspiration of the Southwest and the craftsmanship that goes into making it by hand.
